After the lights went down

The concert ended. The music didn’t.

Most concerts end the same way.

The lights come up. People head for the exits. The journey home begins.

Usually that is where the experience finishes.

This time it didn’t.

Days later I was still listening. Not because I wanted to relive the concert, but because I wasn’t ready to leave that feeling behind.

The songs sounded different now. Not better. Just more personal.

I realised I wasn’t trying to recreate the concert. I was trying to stay connected to it.

The concert ended. The feeling didn’t.

That was the moment the idea for Afterglow appeared.

Not as a playlist series. Not as content for social media. Simply as a way of collecting the songs that helped me remain in that atmosphere a little longer.

Looking back, I don’t think Afterglow is really about concerts.

It is about the feeling that refuses to leave afterwards.

Every playlist since then has asked the same question:

What music stayed with me after I got home?

Everything else is left behind.

See you in the Listening Room.
