When an Afterglow doesn't happen
Sometimes you know while you're standing there.
There was one performance over the weekend I was certain would become an Afterglow.
I'd already imagined the playlist. I'd already assumed I'd keep returning to those songs afterwards.
During the set, I realised something surprising.
The songs were good. The performance was good. The crowd was completely there for it.
And still, something didn't quite connect in the way I'd expected.
Afterglow is not a review. It is not a score. It is the music that follows me home.
That surprised me.
If every concert automatically became a playlist, the series would become a checklist.
I saw this artist. I made this playlist. I moved on.
That is not what Indigo is trying to build.
Afterglow should mean something.
It should only happen when the music changes after the concert. When the songs carry a memory they did not have before. When listening afterwards feels like returning to a room that has already gone dark.
This time, that did not happen.
So I left the playlist unreleased.
Not because anything was wrong with the performance.
Because Indigo needs to stay honest.
Afterglow isn't something I decide before a concert. It isn't something I owe to an artist I like. It either happens, or it doesn't.
This time, it didn't.
Maybe another time, another room, another moment, those same songs will find me again.
See you in the Listening Room.
